John Dillinger reached out from the grave and stole the last three weeks of my life. I traveled to Crown Point, I spent a day in Mooresville. I spent a full eight hours sifting through archived stories in the Star’s vertical file. I drove to Chicago for a press screening for “Public Enemies” only to find out that it was the world premiere. It’s been fun, it’s been maddening, and after this weekend, it’ll be over.

This week’s Metromix contains my exploration of myths surrounding the man, my interview with Marion Cotillard and two photo galleries – one focusing on significant landmarks and one roundup of places where Dillinger got his drank on locally.

If you have the time or interest, poke around. There’s more to come. I need a drink – thankfully I’ll be going to the Vollrath tomorrow night.

  1. Jon Speer Says:

I grew up in Morgantown, IN. In high school, a friend lived in the Morgantown Rock House. He had stories of Dillinger trying to burn the place down and showed us the rafters in the attic that are still charred. Can you confirm this?

Also, Nashville, IN used to (and assume still does) have a Dillinger museum.

  2. Taffy Says:

I never came across any mention of Morgantown in any of the archived material, articles, or books about him.

Nashville used to be the home of Joe Pinkston’s collection – after his death it was purchased by the SSVCA in Hammond and the museum is in the Indiana Visitor’s Center up there.

    Thanks for reading!
