My Friends Make Cool Things

Written by Taffy

Back in 2006 I was going through some heavy personal shit and happened to hear a song that resonated with me deeply. I tried to find the band’s record at Luna and quickly learned that it wasn’t available anywhere but their shows. I found out that they were going to play the Midwest Music Summit (remember that?) but crossed wires led to a missed performance and a trip to Louisville to finally see them play. They were the greatest band no one had ever heard of and I intended to write about them but I got busy becoming friends with them, traveling to see them play, helping them get shows in Indy, and putting them up at my house. They are called Cabin have a fantastic new record coming out this summer. You can see them in Indy on May 12 (details to come) and at the Independent Music + Arts Festival (which is conveniently held on the same day at the same location as the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange Summer Show). They are extremely important to me. Hopefully they will be important to you to.

In other news, my friends at Venogram AKA Alex, Collin, and Dylan, have finished their latest short film, titled “Thank You For Calling Information Dynamics.” I’ve written about them before and they are hosting an event tomorrow night at Earth House. “4×3: Four Short Films by Dylan, Collin, and Alex” will feature – you guessed it – four short films by those three young men. The $5 event will feature screenings of three narrative shorts (”Thank You For Calling Information Dynamics,” “Red Harvest,” and “An Every Day Occurrence”) as well as a music video (We Are Hex’s “Singer/Tastemaker”) and $3 beers from Sun King Brewing. Barring catastrophe, the wife and I will be there. Hopefully you will be, too.

Thanks for the band intro. I like. I see on the 12th they’re playing at Birdy’s (according to MySpace). I may have to go check them out (but definitely will at the IHE).
